The Adoption UK Annual Conference moves north this year, to the fantastic Hotel Majestic in Harrogate. The theme for 2019 is Stronger Families, Brighter Futures, and our expert speakers will be talking about how adoptive parents can help children recover from traumatic early experiences. With multiple workshops, an exhibition marketplace and our first ever young people's zone (subject to sufficient interest), we're confident that this year's event will be bigger and better than ever! Come along for inspiration, information and to connect with others.
Joanne Alper – director of services at Adoptionplus, an adoption agency which offers a developmental trauma and attachment therapy service.
Dr Dave Williams – adviser to Welsh Government on children’s mental health.
Simon London - TV presenter and producer and adult adoptee
Sally Donovan - writer, adoptive Mum, former editor of Adoption Today, who will be chairing our adoptees' panel
Dr Marie Kershaw - lead clinical psychologist at the Birmingham Children's Trust
The conference starts at 9am, with registration at 8:30am, and is due to finish around 4.30pm. The full agenda for the day and more information about our speakers are available on the conference page of our website.
We will be holding several workshops during the afternoon session, covering topics including FASD, home education, sleep, music therapy and therapeutic parenting. We are currently confirming the arrangements and the final workshop programme will be forwarded to delegates in due course.
Please note that the workshops for Therapeutic Parenting and Life Story are now fully booked and there are limited spaces left in the Parenting Our Teens workshop.
We are also planning our first ever young people's zone this year. This will take the form of a one-day drama or music workshop for up to 20 children of school age and will be run by the wonderful team from Harrogate Youth Theatre. Ticket prices will be £20.50 per child and can be ordered when booking adult delegate places. For more information on how Harrogate Youth Theatre work with children and young people please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org. The Young People's Zone is now fully booked.
A limited number of exhibitor stands are available at the conference - please contact email@example.com for more information.
